Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home
Veterans

Honoring those who served.

We are proud to help families arrange Military Funeral Honors for the veterans who gave so much.

Military Funeral Honors

Military Funeral Honors (MFH) include the folding and presentation of the United States flag to the veteran's family and the playing of Taps. These ceremonies are performed by a funeral honors detail consisting of at least two members of the Armed Forces.

Who is eligible

  • Active-duty military members or Selected Reserve personnel
  • Former service members discharged honorably after active duty
  • Those who completed at least one term of enlistment in the Selected Reserve with honorable discharge
  • Selected Reserve members medically discharged for a service-connected disability

Who is not eligible

  • Persons separated under dishonorable conditions
  • Those who never actually entered active duty despite reporting to an induction station
  • Selected Reserve members discharged before completing one term (except for disability)
  • Individuals convicted of a capital crime with a death or life sentence

Establishing veteran status

The preferred document is the DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. Other discharge documents showing honorable service are also acceptable. A DD Form 214 can be requested using Standard Form 180, submitted to the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. Members of the Public Health Service (PHS) and the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps are also eligible, using their respective records.
